Helsinki lecture: Anonymity, intersubjectivity and the self-other differentiation

As part of the series Helsinki Lectures on Intersubjectivity organized by the Centre of Excellence in Intersubjectivity in Interaction Professor Dan Zahavi (University of Copenhagen) gave a lecture on Anonymity, intersubjectivity and the self-other differentiation. The lecture was given 15 January 2016. A video of the lecture is now available.

Abstract

In my talk, I will discuss different views on how to conceive of the self-other relation. Is the difference fundamental, does it arise out of a preceding level of undifferentiated anonymity, or is one of the relata derived? I will contrast views found in phenomenology with different ideas from social constructivism and cognitive science, and discuss whether a certain amount of compatibilism is possible.
