Distributed affect and deep place knowledge

CFS Lecture by John Sutton, University of Stirling & Macquarie University.

Abstract

What is the nature and the cognitive basis of the embodied certainty that some people have in deeply familiar territory, and that is often disrupted or erased through violence or dispossession?

This talk brings work on distributed cognition in memory and emotion research to bear on an examination of the skills and intelligence involved in negotiating familiar places, aiming to integrate phenomenology with cognitive and social theory.
