Antagonistic Political Emotions: An Integrative Philosophical Analysis

Thomas Szanto is heading a new research project at the Center for Subjectivity Research. The project is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and has Ruth Rebecca Tietjen and Lucy Osler as postdocs. Lucy Osler will join CFS from 1 January 2021.

The project will investigate what it means to experience political emotions, provide detailed analyses of specifically antagonistic political emotions, clarify their role in political identification and group formation, consider their normative functions and appropriateness conditions, and examine how they arise in face-to-face encounters, social movements, as well as online contexts.
