N2 - The past decennium has seen the rise of sound art as an artistic discipline establishing its own traditions within the larger framework of contemporary art. Japanese artists such as Ryoji Ikeda, Yukio Fujimoto, Akio Suzuki, Omoto Yoshihide, Merzbow and Ryuichi Sakamoto have played prominent roles in the development of this particular artistic branch lending certain sensibilities and practices to the field. But what is the state of Japanese sound art today? The purpose of this exhibition is to refocus on the vibrant Japanese sound art scene in order introduce contemporary Japanese sound art to a Danish and international public. The exhibition Simple Interactions. Sound Art from Japan presents works by 9 Japanese artists at the Museum of Contemporary Art Roskilde. The exhibition mixes installations, performances and documentations, all of which examine how simple interactions can create complex systems and patterns. Works and performances by the following artists are presented: Yuji DOGANE - Yukio FUJIMOTO - Atsuhiro ITO - Soichiro MIHARA - Atsushi NISHIJIMA - Jio SHIMIZU - Toshiya TSUNODA - Tetsuya UMEDA - Miki YUIThe book presents texts by Minoru HATANAKa; Takashi KOJIMA, Rune SØCHTING and the editors: Mads KULLBERG and Jacob KREUTZFELDT
